The Horizons project is part of Peshkar’s ‘Young Digitals’ strand and has been funded by Awards For All and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester.
This project uses digital skills to teach employability skills to young people who are at risk of dropping out of formal education and aims to help them re-engage with their learning. Through the project young people have the chance to work with Peshkar artists, developing skill sin film-making,animation and sound design as well as spend time learning about Radio with the help of project partners Revolution FM.
Each young person who participates in the project is also able to achieve a Bronze Arts Award.
So far the project has been run with young people from Mahdlo Youth Zone and we are about to start working with our second cohort from here as well as students from Oasis Academy Oldham.
If you would like more information on this project or have a group that you would like to get involved, please contact Steph Meskell-Brocken on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Peshkar invited young creatives to take part in in monthly FREE sessions with artists to learn new skills and insight into what it is like to work within the creative industries.
Workshops have included film making, stop motion animation, digital art, editing and sound. All young creatives taking part in the creative digital Saturdays have been able to achieve an Arts Award
The final session for Digital Saturdays takes place on Saturday 26th November from 1pm – 3pm, at the Old Museum, Greaves Street, Oldham.
