Two Nights of Drama in Blackburn1 min read

February 21st and 22nd 2020 saw the amazing culmination of our project with One Voice Blackburn.

Seven young people from Blackburn community charity One Voice’s Girls group, West End Girls (WEGS) have been taking part in a variety of different arts workshops with Peshkar since August 2019. These sessions have included visual art and fashion, dance, poetry, comedy, songwriting and drama, all designed to give them an insight into the world of arts and culture, help them think about careers in the arts and to create a piece of performance that would be shared at One Voice’s annual dinner and awards events.

These events took place on 21st and 22nd February and saw the group perform a devised murder mystery play, created and written by them with the support of Steph Meskell-Brocken. The piece was extremely well received and the group really rose to the challenge of their first performances.

The next step for these young artists is to complete their Bronze Arts Awards and hopefully we will be back to create a brand new project next year.

A huge well done to the young people: Zarah, Safiyya, Alya, Sara, Nabihah, Shahida and Husna. A big thanks to Zaffer, Uswa and Kiran at One Voice and to Sarah for supporting the project.

Also a big thanks to the artists who inspired the young people Toubie Jack, Sally Hendry, Ciara Tansey, Danny Finn and Shareena Lee Satti.
