Growing up in a multicultural background has inspired me to consider representation and inclusivity in my art. In this blog article, I want to share how thrilled I am to work on a meaningful project in collaboration with Peshkar and Oldham College. Drawing inspiration from surrealism, as well as utilising Unreal Engine 5 for 3D world-building, this project aims to create opportunities for underrepresented communities and foster their artistic potential.

Just like the famous animator Tim Burton, I have also felt like an outsider in the traditional art world due to my background in Computer Science. However, this illusory issue only led me to study Computer Animation and Visual Effects. I started creating artwork for musicians, and then, as a Technical Artist and Character Rigger, commissions for indie game studios followed. The most recent news of becoming a Games Tutor at the university has been a significant milestone in my career development. Through all these experiences, I have learned to embrace my unique blend of technical and creative skills, and I hope to inspire the participants to do the same. This project holds immense significance to me, not just as an artist but also as an individual. It is an opportunity for me to give back to my community and empower young artists to believe in their abilities.

For teenagers, especially those from diverse communities like Oldham’s Pakistani and Bangladeshi populations, digital art can serve as a medium for celebrating the richness of cultural heritage. The youth will have the opportunity to use UE 5, and its advanced capabilities and extensive library of assets will help in the creation of intricate and immersive worlds. The challenge of this project would lie in revealing a portrait or shape that participants identify with, thereby encouraging self-reflection and personal growth.

To ensure the success of this project, meticulous preparation has been crucial. I have refined the curriculum to ensure it is tailored to the participants’ needs and provides a well-rounded experience. Through a partnership between Peshkar and Oldham College, we will manage to facilitate the learning process by providing computers and software in a safe and supportive environment.

I will also curate a series of workshops that will include hands-on demonstrations and guidance on using Unreal Engine 5. These sessions will also embed discussions on the works of contemporary artists whose surrealist styles resonate with fresh perspectives. Their work will be shared with the participants to broaden their exposure to diverse art forms and encourage inclusivity within the industry.

I truly believe that art has the power to bring people together and create a sense of belonging. I hope to not only introduce new digital art techniques to the young generation from underrepresented communities but also to promote diversity, inclusivity, and cultural exchange. I am excited to see how this project will unfold and the impact it will have on the participants and the wider community.
